The Domino® Sugar Yonkers Refinery has been producing sugar on the Hudson River for more than 120 years. Forty vessels a year deliver more than 515,000 tons of raw sugar to our refinery, which we refine at a rate of more than 4.3 million pounds of sugar a day. Our eight packaging lines produce 25 different premium products and package sizes.
We are proud to provide more than 300 well-paying jobs at the Yonkers Refinery, including chemical, mechanical and controls engineers, chemists, machinists, pipefitters, mechanics, electricians and more. A majority are union employees represented by ILA Local 1, Stevedores, IUOE Local 14, IUOE Local 15, IUOE Local 30, or USWU Local 74.
While the fundamental process of refining sugar has changed little over the past century, through continuous improvement and investments in new technology, the Yonkers Refinery is continually making more sugar with less water and energy.
A pillar of Hudson Valley manufacturing, the Yonkers Refinery invests millions of dollars annually into the regional economy through local purchasing, sales, property and payroll taxes and giving to local nonprofits, such as:
- Environmental Stewardship: Groundwork Hudson Valley, Center for the Urban River at Beczak, YMCA Yonkers Community Gardens Program
- Education: Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), Hostos MicrcoSociety School, St. Peter’s Catholic School, Enrico Fermi Education Fund, Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club
- Health and Safety: Feeding Westchester, Yonkers Police Athletic League.
- Housing and Workforce Development: Greyston Foundation, Westhab Dayspring Community Center
- Cultural: Downtown/Waterfront Business Improvement District, Hudson River Museum, Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, Yonkers Film Festival (YoFiFest), Yonkers Historical Society
