Domino® Sugar Refinery Shows Pride in Yonkers and Commitment to City with New LED Welcome Sign

Domino Sugar Yonkers sign lit

Press Release

YONKERS, NY (Nov. 21, 2022) - The Domino® Sugar Yonkers Refinery, owned by American Sugar Refining, Inc., a member of ASR Group, lit a new LED sign at an event on Monday, Nov. 21, showing pride in its beloved brand and the City of Yonkers, where its 300 employees produce more than 4 million pounds of sugar each day.

The sign, measuring 4 feet by 30 feet, combines the newly refreshed Domino Sugar logo with the city’s name in lettering that pays homage to the iconic sign on the Yonkers Recreation Pier downtown. The YONKERS letters are illuminated with color-changing LEDs that can be adjusted seasonally. ASR Group installed the sign alongside the Metro North and Amtrak train lines to welcome thousands of commuters to Yonkers each day.

“We take great pride in global companies that chose to make their products here in Yonkers and Domino Sugar just makes life a little sweeter here in this city," said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. "This new sign will serve as a landmark and symbolize the imprint Domino has had here.”

The Yonkers Refinery provides well-paying, union jobs for generations of families. Forty vessels a year deliver to the plant more than 515,000 tons of raw sugar, which is refined at a rate of more than 4.3 million pounds per day. The refinery’s eight packaging lines produce 25 different premium products and package sizes.

“Our new sign signals our company’s continued dedication to our refinery, our employees, our community and the City of Yonkers,” said Yonkers Plant Manager Tiffany Dunnell, of ASR Group. “We’re proud to call Yonkers home and plan to be here for generations to come.”

The company invests millions of dollars annually in the regional economy through local purchasing, contracting and sales, property and payroll taxes. It also invests in the local community around the refinery through partnerships with local non-profits – such as Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), Feeding Westchester, the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club, the Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront BID and Greyston Foundation – and supports STEM educational programming at local schools.
