Tate & Lyle Sugars
Tate & Lyle® is the largest cane sugar brand in the United Kingdom and has been produced at the same refinery on the banks of the River Thames in London since 1878, when it was opened by Henry Tate. Tate & Lyle Sugars focuses principally on bringing specialty sugars and functional ingredients made from sugar cane to the EU marketplace – a market dominated by sugar produced from domestically grown sugar beet under Europe’s Common Agricultural Policy.
Made from 100% sugar cane grown in the sunshine, it is the natural cane molasses which gives richness and depth of flavor to our range of brown cane sugars. Recently developed, Tate & Lyle® Light at Heart is the UK’s first blend of cane sugar and natural stevia leaf extract, offering the same great taste as Tate & Lyle® sugar, but with half the calories. As well as producing great products for the grocery market, Tate & Lyle Sugars also provides a range of products and packaging formats tailored to the differing needs of industrial and foodservice customers.
In championing sustainability and maintaining the brand’s philanthropic legacy, Tate & Lyle Sugars is proud to have led the way in being the first major global brand to have launched Fairtrade in 2008. Today, Tate & Lyle Sugars is the world’s largest contributor of Fairtrade premiums.
The Thames Refinery in London, UK, owned by Tate & Lyle Sugars, is the largest sugar refinery in Europe and has a production capacity of 1.2 million metric tons of sugar per year.
